Molly Ivins Dies

We are losing too many people to cancer. Breast cancer is such a terrible disease that women (and some men) face.

Molly Ivins was about as left-wing as they come, but I still read her columns filled with flowery language and starry-eyed pursuit of that left-wing feeling of "hope" whether it was the "Man from Hope" or the "Audacity of Hope."

I will miss reading her columns; some made me laugh out loud.

Our prayers should go out to her family.

Women, you can honor her by doing your monthly exam. Men, you can do the same by offering to do it to women you know.

the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy

The Chris Rock "Well Spoken" Principle is in effect with Joseph Biden (D-Del).

Barack Obama is the first articulate, bright, CLEAN (!), and nice looking guy??? What a bunch of racist crap.

What about Shirley Chisholm? Jesse Jackson? Alan Keyes? Carol Mosley Braun? Were all these people "dirty?"

This is on top of his statements about all the 7-11's in Delaware being owned by Indians

...and his fondness of Delaware being a slave state.

But what do you expect from Democrats? They are the party of racism, slavery, Jim Crowe and James Byrd.

Paul Wolfowitz:  You’re Fired

I apologize for being crass, but I would fire PW for this travesty:

This is just disgusting. It would be like Condi farting loudly during Senate testimony. And if she did that, I'd fire her, too.

Note, if you know you are going to a place where you have to take off your shoes - buy some new socks! If it's a surprise visit, take your socks off in the car and go barefoot in the mosque!

Economy Still Booming - Democrats Still See Souplines

Well, America's GDP grew another 3.5% adding to Bush's impressive economic record. Since taking office, the US economy has expanded by about 30% and has created 9 million jobs. And the stock market keeps hitting record highs week after week which benefits about 60% of the population which is invested in the market for retirement.

The economy snapped out of a sluggish spell and grew at a faster-than-expected 3.5 percent pace in the final quarter of last year as consumers ratcheted up spending despite a painful housing slump.

The fresh snapshot of business activity, released by the Commerce Department Wednesday, underscored the resilience of the economy; it has managed to keep on moving despite the ill effects of the residential real-estate bust.
There was no "housing bubble burst" and the housing market expects to improve this year. The Democrats, of course, get no credit. NONE. They haven't passed a single piece of legislation and opposed Bush's economic policy all the way.

Zip. Zero. Nada.

Why Harry Potter!  Come Hither!

Not shabby! I don't like young guys (I like my men older in their 40s and 50s), but he's a stud with a stud.

Divested of his clothes, not to mention the lightning scar on his forehead, this is Harry Potter a million miles from Hogwarts.

Between filming the fifth and sixth Potter movies, 17-year-old Daniel Radcliffe is appearing on the West End stage in a revival of Peter Shaffer's controversial play Equus.
He's only 17 and doing nude plays? He's obviously past puberty, but there's got to be a line drawn somewhere...I guess in high society across the pond it's probably 10 years old.

Can We Admit It Sucked?

OK, I have all the first 5 seasons out on DVD, and I love them all, and there isn't a single episode that I have not liked - until now. Last night's 24 episode SUCKED.

Don't make excuses for it. It SUCKED. And I'm mad at myself that I wasn't studying.

Warning, spoilers below

Wiki’s Popularity As A Legal Reference Grows

I rambled a bit (more than a bit) on this subject here. Today I found a link to a New York Times article that details it more. I was shocked that I found a NEw York Times article useful and worthwhile, do you know how long it has been since that's happened?

"Courts Turn to Wikipedia, but Selectively."

The money quote, from the venerated Judge Posner:

“Wikipedia is a terrific resource,” said Judge Richard A. Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, in Chicago. “Partly because it so convenient, it often has been updated recently and is very accurate.” But, he added: “It wouldn’t be right to use it in a critical issue. If the safety of a product is at issue, you wouldn’t look it up in Wikipedia.”
If you look further into the piece, Larry Lessig (who is an icon amongst the so-called 'copyleft' group) is thrilled by this development. Larry Lessig is a prominent legal writer who a proponent of limiting intellectual property ownership, and while his following tends to be people with left-wing attitudes that's not always true. I personally agree with Lessig about 3% of the time, but when I do, I do so strongly.

We live in interesting times. Due to the internet, you, the regular guy, can make great effects on the world if you do your reserach right (or in the case of some moonbats, bother to do any research at all) and write it up in an effective way. (Notice I did not say by marching with stupid signs and acting like a jack*ss.)

Or at least you can make rgeat effects until you let the politicians take your freedom of speech away.

Bits And Pieces

(Hm, Aaron gave the categories a makeover, I hope this still fits. Anyway...)

Some interesting bits of legal news:

Apparently Justice Scalia knows how to daven. ('Daven' means 'pray' in Yiddish.) Yet another reason for me to like the man. (And if you are wondering what he means by having "to sort of calculate the trajectory of the Constitution," look at the ruling he authored in Kyllo v. United States533 U.S. 27 (2001), a truly integral piece of jurisprudence that protects our privacy far more than Harry Blackmun ever dreamed of. Interestingly, in an opinion finding a thermal imaging scan of a house to be a search under the meaning fo the 4th Amendment, he was joined by Souter, Thomas, Ginsburg, and Breyer, whereas Stevens wrote the dissent and was joined by Rehnquist, O’Connor and Kennedy. Talk about odd bedfellows.)

No, you really can't trust Microsoft.

I think this is a good thing, I wish we could do it in Chicago, but the Aldermen don't like it when you videotape their bribes.

In a rambling piece I wrote here, I mentioned how their is a USSC ruling that makes it very hard to sue the media for defamation. Well, some spuermodel found a lawyer who is bundling a breach of contract against the media for neglecting 'their journalistic obligations to report truthfully and accurately,' along with the usual defamation, IIED, and other claims that frequently go nowhere. It would be interesting if this takes, might set an interesting precedent. Then again, it might be confined to the specific facts of the case even if it wins.

I wouldn't call Justice Stevens anti-patent. He was at one time, particularly in Diamond v. Diehr, where he threw an utter b*tch-fit in the dissent, but he's backed off of that since then (given that his dire predictions didn't come true).

Speaking of Justice Stevens, someone wrote a piece entitled "Supreme Court Retirement Will Change How America Thinks," in which they theorize what would happen if Stevens would retire while Bush is President. Fat. Chance.

And while I'm here, to all you 60s rejects who are angry that conservatives are pointing out the truth of how pathetic your little march was, don't feel useless and irrelevant because your peace march is a sliver of what you inflicted on the country during the Viet Nam War. Feel useless and irrelevant because you haven't done one damn thing for this country, but have existed your whole lives as pathetic ingrates who've never supported anything good or decent. (And no, you did not accomplish anything for civil rights with your stupid marching. It was dedicated lawyers working hard through the court system that did that.) Accept that you suck and shut up.

Watcher of Weasels (LLP Resumes)

I've won before, so let's see if I can again. Check out last week's winners (Bill of INDC Journal has done phenomenal work from Iraq).

As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher's Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around... per the Watcher's instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.

Here is the most recent winning council post, here is the most recent winning non-council post, here is the list of results for the latest vote, and here is the initial posting of all the nominees that were voted on.

Nothing But Criminals - Losers Deface US Capitol with Graffiti

This is an OUTRAGE. The cops did not want to cause a scene so they let 300 protesters spraypaint anarchist symbols on the steps of the Capitol.

How dare they? These are the constituencies praised by our new leaders in congress. How will our Speaker respond to this? Will our Speaker seek justice and have these petty vandals jailed?

And is the author of this article related to Dennis the Menace (D-OH, Martian Caucus)?

Anti-war protesters spray paint Capitol building
By Jackie Kucinich

Anti-war protesters were allowed to spray paint on part of the west front steps of the United States Capitol building after police were ordered to break their security line by their leadership, two sources told The Hill.

According to the sources, police officers were livid when they were told to fall back by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Chief Phillip Morse and Deputy Chief Daniel Nichols. "They were the commanders on the scene," one source said, who requested anonymity. "It was disgusting."

After police ceded the stairs, located on the lower west front of the Capitol, the building was locked down, the source added.

A second source who witnessed the incident said that the police had the crowd stopped at Third Street, but were told to bring the police line in front of the Capitol.

Approximately 300 protesters were allowed to take the steps and began to spray paint "anarchist symbols" and phrase such as "Our capitol building" and "you can’t stop us" around the area, the source said.

Morse responded to these claims in an e-mail Sunday afternoon, explaining that the protesters were seeking confrontation with the police.

"While there were minor instances of spray painting of pavement by a splinter group of Anarchists who were seeking a confrontation with the police, their attempts to breach into secure areas and rush the doors of the Capitol were thwarted," Morse said. "The graffiti was easily removed by the dedicated [Architect of the Capitol] staff, some of whom responded on their day off to quickly clean the area."
What a bunch of spoiled brats. I know confrontation would be spun by the media in the vandals' favor, but they needed to be tased and jailed. The point is not how easy it is to clean up the graffiti...the point is that our sacred Capitol where our representatives (Republican and Democrat) conduct business. It is a symbol of our nation and the PC police allowed these thugs to wipe their asses with it. I want people fired. I want arrests. And if the Speaker's office does not lead the effort, then the Republicans need to raise holy hell.

No pictures, no pictures, please!  I will sign autographs after the show…

Just kidding.

Andrea Shea King was lovely enough to invite me on her radio show this evening to discuss the "barely there" rally in DC yesterday. She said I will be on sometime between 9:40 and 10:00 pm EST. In fact, you should tune in regularly. From the emails I've received from her and friends, I know she works very hard to put together a quality program.

This is very nice because I want to discuss what happened yesterday because the media will not report it; I am surprised by all the feedback on my post about the rally and my phone cam video. I will have to invest in a real video camera as these hippie events happen frequently.

Anyway, here are the details as emailed to me. Again, thank you, Andrea. I hope I do okay.

On tonight's "ANDREA SHEA KING SHOW" at 9 pm ET on AM 580 WDBO - Orlando

Aaron Arnwine of LifeLikePundits.com was at yesterday's anti-war rally in Washington. He'll tell us what the mainstream media isn't.

Also, David Bellavia returns with his take on Kerry's "US is a pariah"
comments, the antiwar rally, and the antiwar resolution coming up for vote this week in the US Senate.

Kagan Calls out the Politicians - Lefties Demand More Children and Grandchildren

Kagan writes a brilliant piece describing exactly the childishness of the politicians in congress over the Iraq war.

Back in Washington, however, Democratic and Republican members of Congress are looking for a different kind of political solution: the solution to their problems in presidential primaries and elections almost two years off. Resolutions disapproving the troop increase have proliferated on both sides of the aisle. Many of their proponents frankly, even proudly, admit they are responding to the current public mood, as if that is what they were put in office to do. Those who think they were elected sometimes to lead rather than follow seem to be in a minority.
It has nothing to do with victory or the direction in the war on terror. It's all about '08! Right wing nut takes it a step further; you'll want to check out his analysis on Madame Hillary "Evita" Clinton.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York used her time [to question General Patraeus] to make a speech about Iraq policy and did not ask a single question of the man who will be leading the military campaign.

She began by blaming the Iraq crisis on a "Congress [that] was supine under the Republican majority, failing to conduct oversight and demanding accountability, and because the president and his team, particularly the former secretary of defense, refused to adapt to the changing circumstances on the ground."

From that partisan opening, Clinton went on to decry "the failures of the Iraqis to step up and take responsibility for their own future."

Apparently, General Petraeus had a mere four word reply to Hillary's endless harraunge. She followed up with...no futher questions.

Appalling enough that this women (sic), who dreams of becoming America's commander-in-chief, is playing presidential politics while the most important military officer in the United States waits patiently before her. But doesn't she have the responsibility, as a sitting Senator on this prestigous committee, to ask questions of the General regarding policy, tactics, rules of engagement, and results? Or is it understood that her duty to her constituents in New York has been discharged now that she is running for president?
I read the comments on Kagan's column in the Washington Post and, needless to say, they offer nothing new from the left.

I really have no problem with the author*s views as long as he is willing to send his own children and grandchildren to Iraq, that also goes for all the politicians. Don*t rattle your sword then send someone else*s kids to die like in Viet Nam, be a man and join the military like I did. Otherwise you will be relegated to stand on the sideline and quietly watch as we force Congress to do as WE THE PEOPLE ask. Let the Iraq CHIPS fall where they may, when they actually attack us we can mount a proper war and blast them off the face of the earth. We can*t fight them in their own back yard like we tried to do in Viet Nam. Let them come to us like in Pearl Harbor. We do our best fighting when the enemy is not entwined with our troops as in Baghdad. Remember Nagasaki and Heroshima, if I remember correctly they surendered soon after the second bomb.....Gil in Tex
Obviously, the man is sick. He wants us to be hit again and fight on our soil. But something else just struck me today about this lame thinking of the left.

I am so tired of this "send your children and grandchildren" business the left uses as political cover to avoid talking about the real consequences of their positions, as they sit in their dorm room or the local Starbucks. Our soldiers are MEN and WOMEN and should be spoken of with respect. But I think we can use this "children and grandchildren" standard in other policy issues as well.

How about this? All the people who want to pull out should send their children and grandchildren to Iraq after our troops leave. They demand those who support our troops in Iraq send our children and grandchildren; why don't they send their children and grandchildren to serve as human shields when we execute their policy positions of "redeployment" and the guaranteed genocide and bloodletting that will follow?

We should make this a pattern. Any political position the left takes, they should offer up their children and grandchildren. You think the government should confiscate more taxes? You should turn over your children's college fund to the government. You like the estate tax? Then you should turn over everything you own to the government after you die and leave nothing to your children or grandchildren. I mean, how could you possibly advocate for such positions unless you put your own children and grandchildren out there to prove you're serious?

Are you against school vouchers? Then you should be forbidden by law to send your children to private schools. In fact, your children and grandchildren should be forced/bussed to the most violent, run-down public school in the closest city and forced to attend school there.

Do you believe that affirmative action and race quotas are necessary? Then your children and grandchildren should give up their spot at the university to a minority. Your children and grandchildren should also give up any job paying more than minimum wage to a more needy minority.

The argument that people who make decisions about war fighting must have children in the battle is illogical and is an attempt to obfuscate the issue: how to complete the mission. As I've said before, emotion over personal involvement clouds sound judgment. I do not want any politician to cower and put this nation at risk simply because s/he does not want to see his/her children hurt. This is ridiculous. Chelsea Clinton never went to Haiti, Rwanda or Bosnia and you never once heard a Republican demanding that she enlist before Clinton made any military decision (of the one or two he did make).

"Why don't you send your children to fight!" How does this shrill question get us closer to a solution and closer towards victory? It doesn't. Yesterday at the counter-protest, some 30-something guy yelled, "Why aren't you in Iraq if you support this war so much?" I thought about it and looked around at all the college-aged and 20 and 30-something men at the "Peace" rally trying to get laid. I wondered, if they don't support Iraq, but do support getting "the real enemy--bin Laden," then how come they did not sign up and go to Afghanistan? How could they demand action from the president to get bin Laden if they were not over there?

And, of course, what about their children and grandchildren? Speaker Nancy "Mimi" Pelosi said that "the real war on terror is in Afghanistan" (even though bin Laden is in Pakistan). Why aren't they sending them to Afghanistan through the peace corps or USAID? Anyone who complains about why we have not captured bin Laden should be made to explain why they have not signed up to go get bin Laden and why they haven't sent their children or grandchildren to the mountains of Waziristan to get him.

Redeploy the Hippies to Cuba (and other thoughts on the Code Pinko Rally)

I really had a great time. Listen to my radio interview on WDBO AM here where I give my take on the events this past weekend.

The first picture I'd like to share is me at the "Sandy Berger Entrance" at the National Archives. This IS the exact spot where Sandy Burgler stole documents pertinent to his testimony in front of the 9/11 commission; hid some documents underneath a construction trailer; and shredded the rest at home.

image

I felt so safe and secure in this spot because I was overcome with the glory of the Clinton-Berger national security plan and how they wanted so badly for the public to know how hard they worked that they stole and destroyed that evidence. Saints I tell you. Saints.

The highlight of the day was to see Spc Joshua Sparling. If you recall, he received a letter that some moonbat wrote (pretending to be a child) condemning him while he lay in the hospital trying to save his leg. Well, he ended up losing his leg, but that didn't stop him from joining our band of 40 patriots. I think of people like him and get so emotional. Here he is signing autographs using what is left of his leg to hold the pad.

What a hero.

image

Most of my camera-phone video sucked and was upside down. I don't know how to fix that. And the sound cuts out, but it does give you an idea of what's happening.

The chant you hear in the video is "Swim to Cuba."

Let me tell you this: there were MAYBE 4000 people there. And there were MAYBE 8000 - 12000 protesters at the Capitol. The news media knows how to frame shots of signs close together to make the crowd look more crowded. And they like to crop pictures as well.

This is how the AP makes 20 people look like 100; they get people to stagger their signs' angle:

But as you can clearly see, while there were a lot of people (many of them VERY nice and thoughtful and wanted to talk and listen to the other side), it did not live up to hype. It was just another hippie reunion. Here is another 30 or so people with BIG signs.

The Washington Post is in on the exploitation game with headlines like "Tens of Thousands Rally" and such. "Tens of Thousands" means 10,047 people. Not THRONGS of people that are too many to count.

But again, this is not the revolution these communists keep promising. The media thinks this is a big deal, but when 100,000 people showed up for the March for Life last week, it made page A8.

Hit me up with links to other people at the protest!!!

On My Way to the Rally

I stopped off here at work to eat breakfast and drop off my gym clothes (I didn't work out yesterday so I need to today).

I digress.

Since it is the weekend, only Starbucks was open to serve breakfast. I went into enemy territory and there were at least six hippies there with signs made by Moveon.org. I wanted to pull out my signs but they were in my duffel bag. If I see them down there in ten minutes on my way to the rally, then I will see if they want to take a picture.
