I had a letter to Jonah at the NRO Corner posted earlier today:

Look. I am a guy who dates older guys (10 years my senior usually; I am 29).

Many older gay guys like younger, barely legal looking boys; their denying this is complete BS.

If there was no desire for this, why is “barely legal” one of the biggest gay adult video money makers?

Part of the problem is the media and pundits overuse of the pedophilia charge. Gay men are disgusted by being linked to pederasts preying on 7 year olds versus someone who is a senior in high school.

This whole Foley situation stinks and is frustrating precisely because the blowback and media coverage is utterly out of proportion.

Then I was asked a very pointed question by fellow blogger (I am not sure if he wants his identity revealed)...

Just out of curiosity here, do you think that being the younger man in a
relationship like that gives you power, because you are more desirable
because of your youth? I think the rest of us tend to assume that Foley
was the one with the power because of his age and occupation, but
perhaps that's mistaken?

My reply:

I think you make an EXCELLENT point.

This whole bit about "the children" is getting rather old.

These 17 and 18 year olds think they are all that and totally work over these older men. They PREY on them for money and gifts. That's why they are called sugar daddies.

Some of these older men did not come out until their 40's and 50's. They had marriages and children and are just entering the gay community. They have bull's-eyes on their backs from kids who are coming out like at 16/17.

They see these high school and college gays being able to "be gay" in their memorable years and the older men try to relive their younger days through these young guys.

I am NOT excusing Foley. As the adult, he is ultimately responsible.

But if you read these emails, these kids were just as nasty. I find it's the same way in the gay community.

Now Drudge said these IMs were pranks gone awry. That does not excuse Foley's behavior, but definitely changes these pages from "victims" to "instigators" which is exactly what I said above.

This is one of the best ideas I have read. What do you think (it was on the Laura Ingraham message board so I cannot link):

The Republicans need to go on the offensive NOW....

Introduce an emergency PROTECT THE PAGES AND INTERNS ACT. Any Congressman who is sexually bothering (physically or through correspondence) ANY page or intern, regardless of age, will temporarily resign pending investigation.

If the investigation determines there was sexual misconduct, that Congressman will be out the door, without any of the wonderful Congressional perks.

Any personal correspondence of a personal nature between a Congressman and ANY page or intern will be done through the Congressional page office (i.e., copied) and/or their parents will be copied .

See how many DEMOCRATs will vote for passage.

Also: New bumpersticker.

The Democratic Party

Soft on terrorists. Hard on fags.

The pages and interns aren't there to be hit on by our sleazy politicians. Many companies have policies like this, I don't see why we can't expect the same from our Congress.

And while the congress is gathered to voice vote in this emergency legislation, attach the legislation that DEMOCRATS SANDBAGGED, that minors could not be dragged across state lines to sneak an abortion.

I find it really ironic that the party that thinks its wrong to inform the parents of possible sexual abuse and its subsequent abortion of a minor is calling foul over these messages.

Former Rep. Mark Foley was molested between the ages of 13 and 15 by a clergyman, his attorney told reporters Tuesday. David Roth said the admission was made as part of Foley's recovery program at a treatment center for alcoholism and mental illness. The escalating scandal erupted Friday when Foley resigned amid questions over e-mails he allegedly wrote to a former page.

I am mad as HECK at the Republicans. The way they just let Foley slide until it was made public makes me sick. I'm also mad at the Republicans for a bunch of other stuff (like passing tax cuts and a line-item veto when Clinton was President, but being unable to make tax cuts permanent for President Bush or give him a scaled-down line-item veto that would be constitutional, and their excessive spending, and their inability to pass a simple bill that let's people shop for health care in all 50 states, and the earmarking, and all the other CRAP - pardon my language).

I do NOT want to hear about Democrats that did similar things. I don't CARE. That someone else is a bigger slimeball doesn't make your case better.

I do NOT want to hear some bozo try to explain that "how old are you now" and "can I get an email pic" is not red flag material. I don't care that the IMs had the worst of it, the emails that they knew about should have spurred them to do SOMETHING.

I don't care that the kid was of age of consent in D.C., this is the guy he works for.

I want the Republicans to fall, and fall hard, and realize that they can't act this way and expect our support.

On the other hand...

The Democrats WILL cut and run from Iraq, embolden the terrorists, go back to treating terrorism like it's a law-enforcement issue (yeah, like liberals and law-enforcement go together), and in general emasculate our national security and place their faith into the socialist dictators at the UN. Plus they'll raise our taxes.

I am not happy with my choices. Of course I live in one of the safest blue Conrgessional districts anyway, gerrymandered for someone's continued pension.

I'm in a bad mood about this today, does it show?

But that's not what the NY Times Headline says:

Records Show Tenet Briefed Rice on Al Qaeda.

That would make you believe that she ignored what he said (confirming Bob Woodward's latest charge).

But after READING the article, we find this wonderful nugget:

Mr. Tenet told members of the Sept. 11 commission about the July 10 meeting when they interviewed him in early 2004, but committee members said the former C.I.A. director never indicated he had left the White House with the impression that he had been ignored.

“Tenet never told us that he was brushed off,” said Richard Ben-Veniste, a Democratic member of the commission. “We certainly would have followed that up.”

Mr. McCormack said the records showed that, far from ignoring Mr. Tenet’s warnings, Ms. Rice acted on the intelligence and requested that Mr. Tenet make the same presentation to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Atttorney General John Ashcroft.

But Mr. Ashcroft said by telephone on Monday evening that he never received a briefing that summer from Mr. Tenet.

“Frankly, I’m disappointed that I didn’t get that kind of briefing,” he said. “I’m surprised he didn’t think it was important enough to come by and tell me.”

The dispute that has played out in recent days gives further evidence of an escalating battle between the White House and Mr. Tenet over who should take the blame for such mistakes as the failure to stop the Sept. 11 attacks and assertions by Bush administration officials that Saddam Hussein was stockpiling chemical and biological weapons and cultivating ties to Al Qaeda.

So all the EVIDENCE and WITNESSES say that Condi acted by instructing Tenet to move forward and brief the Pentagon and the Justice Department, and that the 9/11 Commission heard this testimony and it was not controversial.

But the NY Times thinks the story is about Condi, when it is all about George "Slam Dunk" Tenet. This stinks and the NY Times and Democrats are goign to make fools out of themselves.

If I were Bush, I would start declassifying all sorts of "presidential memos" that Clinton wrote or saw (or Sandy Berger stole and destroyed).

All of this is a political game to them. They do not care about the safety of pages or eithics. The Democrat playbook (leaked like the NIE?) is all we need to see:

1. Pay no heed to the distinction between the e-mails and IMs. There's no evidence (yet) that any Republican leaders knew about Foley's cybersex IMs. There's plenty of evidence that they knew how uncomfortable the "overly friendly" e-mails made at least one page. So the Dems will press the GOP on what they knew about the former and will constantly, in their press releases, refer to the "GOP's knowledge of the sexually explicit e-mails."

2. Enlarge the wedge between House leaders. The tension this weekend between Speaker Dennis Hastert and NRCC chair Tom Reynolds was thick. Dems want it to suffocate the party and throw the Republicans even further off their game.

3. Be aggressive about how Dems will -- and are -- protecting children. Dems want to keep the issue poisonous in a way that's clear and direct to middle America. (In other words: this ain't earmarks.)

4. Choose unimpeachable spokespeople to be their public face. The DCCC has enlisted Patty Wetterling, its candidate for MN 06, to call for "a thorough investigation" of the House leadership over Foley. Wetterling's son, Jacob, was kidnapped in 1989.

5. Deride the Republicans for incompetence. How can you possibly trust them with national security if you can't trust them with your own children?

6. Bring up Terri Schiavo's case and compare the heated GOP attention back then to their allegedly lax attention to the welfare of their pages.

7. Compare what the GOP leadership says about Foley with what Republicans said about Jack Abramoff.

8. Use the Foley cash. Already, the DSCC wonders why George Allen didn't immediately return the Foley. The quotable Phil Singer: “It is more than a little disturbing that Allen apparently sees nothing wrong with holding on to contributions he got from an adult who has been caught sending sexually explicit email to children." Allen and Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) will return the cash. But the NRCC already spent the $550K and won't.

Just like Cindy Sheehan uses her sons coffin as a soapbox, the Dems will use up this young man and spit him out. It really is just sick.

A dam collapses (aka, blown up by Bush) in Nigeria:

Rescue workers dispensed water purification tablets Monday to crowds of people whose homes were washed away after a dam collapsed in northern Nigeria, as surveyors worked to determine what caused the disaster.

An emergency official said Monday that no one died in the weekend collapse, contradicting earlier reports from police and witnesses.

The Gusau dam in the north of the West African country collapsed Saturday after heavy rains. The torrent of water released washed away hundreds of homes and witnesses said entire families were pulled into the rushing flood.

Ah, yes. Those marvelous water purification tablets. Shame they didn't live in the United States where they would receive free housing for a year, debit cards with $2000.00, free food, free medical attention, and 15 minutes of fame in the drive by media for complaining about how Bush does not like black people.
