Broken Glass
Let's gauge how the Foley Scandal is playing for the Democrats.
After the coordinated attack by the Dems and the Drive By Media, with calls from Democrats for GOP leadership to resign, with Nancy Pelosi saying Republicans don't care about children, are you more or less likely to crawl across broken glass to vote for a Republican?

Better Quesiton: With the emerging scandal, how effectively can the the spinmeisters at the GOP market themselves as the "Family Values" party in this and future elections? Time to pack that "Family Values" slogan in for something more along the line of "We may be gay....we may be perverts, but at least we are against gay marriage and birth control".
Its always satisfying to see these hypocrits hoisted on their own petard.

So one guy makes a party the same.... does that mean all Democrats cheat on their wives? Do all Democrats steal money and keep it in their freezer? Do all Democrats lie every time they open their mouths? That kind of stuff makes people that say stuff like KeithS look beyond stupid. The guy did something bad and now he's resigned and is paying the price... the Dems that do something bad stay in office and get praised. I don't care how you shake it... your comment is just plain stupid. For the record I am registered Independent, and I would still crawl over broken glass to vote for the right PEOPLE. The Republicans and Democrats need to get rid of their scum in primaries. I seen a start for that this election cycle. Keep it up. Voters need to have a longer attention span and keep working in the primaries... it is what they are for. Even though I think the Dems have went way crazy of late, at least they fought to get some crazies in their primaries, and no matter what anyone else thinks of these people, they did the right thing, try to guys in with their beliefs and values.

I think it's fair to say that, whereas the "values" of the republicans would include caring about children (well, duh...), the leadership in congress has indicated -- inarguably -- that in the case of Mr Foley, they care more about party politics and power. That much is clear. When a party tries -- quite successfully -- to market itself as the one of "family values," but then reveals itself, in terms of its actual leadership, to care more about power for the sake of power, it might behoove that party's followers to wonder if in fact they've been taken for fools. In fact the republican leadership, in all its venues, is about power for the sake of power. I'm not saying that in the history of time this is unique: I am saying that the republicans leadership has taken to unprecedented levels the cynicism and duplicity that we know as politics. I believe there are actual people in the party who believe in what the party is purported to stand for. It's clear that from bush on down, those in power actually do not. So why, Aaron, would you reward them with re-election? If you actually believe in such things as fiscal responsibility, the Constitution, separation of powers, the value of a two party system, public education, independent judiciary, separation of church and state -- in other words if you actually believe in what it is that makes America unique, admirable, and (up til recently) successful, how in the name of god could you support ANY of the current party leadership? They have played you and the entire nation for fools. Their confidence your complacency and in their ability to manipulate you, to pull strings on you like a marionette -- their amazing ability to say one thing for public consumption and to do another -- in short, their contempt for the American people (not to mention the gross incompetence of the White House and the inability of congress to do a damn thing --ought to be so obvious and repugnant that every one of them and their enablers should be swept from office. Frankly, I don't have a lot of confidence that the Democratic leadership will be a hell of a lot better. But it simply can't occur that such a dangerous group as your current leaders should be rewarded. If democracy means anything, it ought to mean that.

Both Keith and Democrat keep pretending that Foley is all Republicans. Hastert passed the 2005 emails to the FBI, and didn't know about the IMs.
Try to get it straight, I know that you're leties and therefore you don't want to hear it, but Foley is not all Republicans. Proof that Republicans are the party of family values is that they made him resign, unlike the Democrats who will rally around their own no matter what disgusting behavior they do.

First, it's become apparent via the "I told him to/no I didn't" comments from Hastert that it is completely unclear what got Foley to resign - the only consistent story thus far is that he made the decision himself.
Second - no one is saying that Foley is "all Republicans" - many people, including prominent conservatives, are saying that the House GOP leadership put politics and power over morality and decency, if not also legality.
The problem with you is apparently that you're pretending this is not the level of scandal it actually is.
The problem with Aaron is that he is a partisan who cares not one more about right and left than right and wrong.
But, hey - he spends ample time in his posts parroting Rush Limbaugh. Knowing who his heroes are (Limbaugh, Malkin) certainly explains his self-chosen shortcomings. What explains yours, Marlene?

Arg - line should be, "The problem with Aaron is that he is a partisan who cares more about right and left than right and wrong.".
And - the only option when first trying to Preview or Post should be simply "Proceed", as the user will be automatically redirected to the security page.
As it is now, the security field is not available at the first opportunity to click "Post", which redirects the user to a "Your attempt to post failed because..." message, which isn't accurate - they were never given the opportunity to authenticate at that point.
Fix:
- Remove the first instance of the "Post" button
- "Preview" should probably be renamed to something along the lines of "Proceed"
Sorry - I test for a living...

Try as they might, this isn't a scandal, it's a distraction from the real issues. Pelosi should shut up and they should all figure out how to make certain something like this doesn't happen again.

I spoke not of all republicans but of the leadership. And the only reason they made him resign is that their year-long coverup got outed. They urged him to run for reelection when they knew...
Family values? It's a bogus term in any case. But these guys -- whatever the term means -- exemplify the opposite. To repeat: they tolerated and covered up his behavior for a year in order to keep a seat in congress. If that's family values, then why even bother?
Anyone who defends these guys is no real republican. If the level of mendacity of this administration and the congressional leaders doesn't offend you, then the die is cast: America is on its way to the dustbin of history. Is there no point at which even a die-hard conservative would look at the mess and say "enough?" Is partisanship so blinding that even these guys get a pass? If so, there's no longer such a thing as standards.
