Army Has Best Recuiting Year Since 1999

This really sucks - for Democrats:

The Army is ending its best recruiting year since 1997 and expecting similar success in 2007, despite the weight of grim war news from Iraq, Army Secretary Francis Harvey said Thursday.

In an Associated Press interview, Harvey said the Army will enlist its 80,000th soldier on Friday, reaching its goal for the year with eight days to spare. That is a considerable turnaround from last year when the Army missed its target for the first time since 1999 and by the widest margin in more than two decades.

I cannot find this anywhere on the main Washington Post web page.

But George Allen's Jewry was on the front page again!

Yeah, this is something I just don't get. Why the heck would anyone care whether or not George Allen has any Jewish ancestry in him? I sure don't, my vote gets based on policy issues. I don't know of a single Jew (except for those who vote Democrat out of some OCD compulsion and would never, ever change their vote) who cares. Most people whose families have been in this country for a few generations have all sorts of ethnicity mixed into the family.

Are they trying to say that he's ashamed of it somehow? Why? Because he doesn't go around talking about it all the time? Who cares? I want to hear his position on the issues.

Why does this suck for Democrats? They protected by a different army?

its a dual insult to conservatives and is the same playbook the Dems tried to use by constantly bringing up that Dick Cheney's daughter is gay.

First, they want to paint the person as somehow being ashamed (either of himself as in Allen's case or of someone in their family).

Second, they believe that we are all a bunch of bigot hicks, that somehow conservatives will not vote for Allen for being Jewish (like they thought that conservatives might not vote for Cheney if he had a gay daughter).
