But I Thought There Was No Terrorist Threat
Michael Moore told us so!
British police thwarted [FOX News Brian Kilmeade said that the plot was disrupted, not thwarted] on Thursday what they said was a plot to blow up aircraft in mid-flight between Britain and the United States and arrested more than 15 people.
Both countries stepped up security, causing severe delays at airports following the revelation of the plot, which a police source said was believed to involve a “liquid chemical” device.
“The police acting with the security service MI5 are investigating an alleged plot to bring down a number of aircraft through mid-flight explosions, causing a considerable loss of life,” Interior Minister John Reid said.
Thank God for the British MI5 (DOMESTIC SPYING!!!! IMPEACH BUSH - BLAIR!) and Tony Blair.
Supposedly, this was a very technologically advanced plot with liquid/chemical bombs smuggled on board in component parts. 21 arrested, possibly 50 still at large.
The fact that we are within a month of 9-11's fifth anniversary is not a coincidence.
Anyway, as Lucianne said, Lorie Byrd is all over this.
Instead, Michael Moore is issuing threats to anyone who supports Bush's Wars...
Nearly every Democrat set to run for president in 2008 is responsible for this war. They voted for it or they supported it. That single, stupid decision has cost us 2,592 American lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives. Lieberman and Company made a colossal mistake -- and we are going to make sure they pay for that mistake. Payback time started last night.
I realize that there are those like Kerry and Edwards who have now changed their position and are strongly anti-war. Perhaps that switch will be enough for some to support them. For others, like me -- while I'm glad they've seen the light -- their massive error in judgment is, sadly, proof that they are not fit for the job. They sided with Bush, and for that, they may never enter the promised land.
To Hillary, our first best hope for a woman to become president, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you continue to support Bush and his war. I'm sure someone has advised you that a woman can't be elected unless she proves she can kick ass just as crazy as any man. I'm here to tell you that you will never make it through the Democratic primaries unless you start now by strongly opposing the war. It is your only hope. You and Joe have been Bush's biggest Democratic supporters of the war. Last night's voter revolt took place just a few miles from your home in Chappaqua. Did you hear the noise? Can you read the writing on the wall?
To every Democratic Senator and Congressman who continues to back Bush's War, allow me to inform you that your days in elective office are now numbered. Myself and tens of millions of citizens are going to work hard to actively remove you from any position of power.

We should bear in mind that the threats are far from over and we should absolutely not let the disruption of THIS plot make us complacent. I believe 8/22/06 is reputed to be the date that the "coming of the 12th Iman" is expected. This month and next can be expected to be somewhat stressful. Take long walks, cuddle with those you love, be grateful that you live in our great and glorious country (with all its flaws, people still risk their lives to come here). Thank God for our President and for his patient and steadfast agenda. Be grateful also for our great and good friend, Tony Blair, who has risked his political life endlessly on behalf of freedom and his country and ours since 9/11. With all the problems facing our two nations, we are blessed nonetheless.

Well, Jesus didn't show up in 2000 or 2004 like he was supposed to, so I'm not really betting on the 12 Imam's apearance either.
What we have here is a perfect example of what happens when terrorists are treated, and investigated as the criminals they are instead of elevated to the status of warriors.
You go ahead and thank anyone you want for Bush's "steadfast agenda". I perfer Blairs method. Find the people responsible and put them in jail. I haven't seem Bush do any of that in 5 years that he's been bleating about the "war on terror".
Aaron, thanks for taking the cheap shot at warrantless spying. It gives me the opportunity to point out that MI-5 also has to obtain a warrant in order to spy on private citizens and that didn't slow them down one bit. The problem we all have with warrantless spying isn't that we don't want terrorists caught, it's that we don't want to be spyed on without any oversite. And it's stupid anyway because FISA doesn't even need to issue a warrant until three days after the fact.
Kudos to Britian for catching these criminals. Keep up the good work.

Bacchus, who predicted Jesus showing up in 2000 or 2004? Who? Where? Or do you just hate Christians so much that you're in a constant state of projection?
"A perfect example of when terrorists are treated as criminals"...you were inside the investigation? You know for a fact that data recovered from computers during raids in Afghanistan weren't involved? Signals intellegence from sattellites wasn't invovled? You were there, in Scotland Yard? You know all the details?
You haven't seen Bush put anyone in jail...like John Walker Lindh, Zacharias Moussoui, or the people nabbed down in Florida that were plotting to take out the Sears Tower?
Oh, and FISA does not apply to terrorists groups, only agenst of other countries, and FISA also only applies within the US, not to calls coming into the country from outside of it, and for the types of programs that the administration has been accused of operating (with oversight, by the way, just judicial, not congressional) subpoenas were needed, not warrants. Big difference in Constituional Law.
Bacchus, you really need to take your meds.

IB, your perjorative vocabulary and dismissive tone do not in any way negate the fact that since 9/11 there have been numerous arrests of would-be terrorists in this country, and no fresh outrages. But as the old saying goes, "If George W. Bush discovered the cure for cancer, he'd be accused of ignoring the cure for AIDS!" In other words, he cannot win with some people - and you are clearly one of them, IB.
The British were very fortunate that the New York Times didn't find out about these arrests in time to warn the perps!
IB - I wasn't aware that Jesus' coming was predicted. The coming of the 12th Iman very much IS! Instead of commenting on things you have not thoroughly researched (which I did), you might want to read a book or two on the subject. As I have.

And don't forget everyone down at Club Gitmo!

First of all, Gayle, not I introduced religion into this discussion. Second, none of you, none of you can deny that dispensationalist christians have been trying to predict the second coming regularly since the 10th century. Don't make me look up links for you again, Aaron. It always makes you look silly.
Charles, do you have any proof that any of Bush's illegal policies had anything to do with this case? Particularly since it was British police that caught them? Were you at Scotland yard?
John Walker Lind wan't a terrorist, he was religious fanatic who found the Talaban more in line with his beliefs than our government.
Massoui was under investigation prior to the introduction of Bush's illegal wire tapping and pretty much convicted himself. The clowns in Florida it turned out didn't even have any explosives.
FISA was passed specifically to restrict the federal government from spying domestically at the end of the Nixon Admniistration. Don't you read?
Gayle, If I am perjoritive I'm in the company of everyone else on this site. If I am dismissive it's only toward assertions that are too silly even to be ridiculed. And since you bring it up George Bush still hasn't gotten Bin Laden, and the only notible arrest of a terrorist suspect in the US resulted in an American citizen being held for 3 years without charge and then charged with a customs violation.
You guys are NOT going to turn the british success into a a score for Bush and his illegal policies because he didn't have anything to do with it.

"You guys are NOT going to turn the british success into a a score for Bush and his illegal policies because he didn't have anything to do with it."
Ha ha ha , Don't have to . You've done it for us stupid. When was the last time you've seen or talked to Bin Laden? Expect a visit from the Special Forces.

"Charles, do you have any proof that any of Bush's illegal policies had anything to do with this case?"
Given that I do know of any illegal policies, no. But more to the point, YOU made a claim that you knew how it was done. I made no such claim. I challenged you to back up your claim, and I am still waiting.
You stated earlier: "Find the people responsible and put them in jail. I haven't seem Bush do any of that in 5 years that he's been bleating about the "war on terror"." And I gave you examples of people being put in jail on Federal charges connected to the War on Terror.
You said "John Walker Lind wan't a terrorist, he was religious fanatic who found the Talaban more in line with his beliefs than our government."
And one of the beliefs in that system was to make war on the United States, hence his conviction for carrying weapons in pursuit of that war. If you don't think he was a terrorist, you are ignoring all of the evidence to the contrary, just to fuel your Bush Derangement Syndrome.
"Massoui was under investigation prior to the introduction of Bush's illegal wire tapping and pretty much convicted himself. The clowns in Florida it turned out didn't even have any explosives."
Massoui was nabbed on immigration violations before 9/11, which is why the Presidential Directive of 9/12/01 did not apply to him. He was convicted of conspiracy. The FL clowns were charged with conspiracy. The reason that they didn't have explosive was that they were caught before implementing the plan. (They ahd plenty of illegal weapons.) Try to find an on-line legal dictionary. You will discover that the word 'conspiracy' refers to a crime that did not actually get committed.
"FISA was passed specifically to restrict the federal government from spying domestically at the end of the Nixon Admniistration. Don't you read?"
I've read FISA several times. I also have a law degree, and I got As in COnstitutional Law, Evidence, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure. So yes, I have read a great deal on FISA. And you don't know what you are talking about. FISA was passed specifically to require warrants for espionage on foreign agents operating within the US. Go to the USCA and read the entire law.
"If I am perjoritive I'm in the company of everyone else on this site."
I don't have a problem with you being pejorative, I have a problem with your deliberate, belliegerent ignorance. It is rare to find someone who does not want to hear any facts that might stop them from engaging in psychotic fantasy.
"If I am dismissive it's only toward assertions that are too silly even to be ridiculed."
No, you're dismissive to what the actual laws are. You keep saying Bush ahs illegal policies. Please, find me one illegal policy.
"George Bush still hasn't gotten Bin Laden,"
Therefore? The goal is to smash terrorist organizations. If Al-queda is crippled and harmless, I don't care if Bin Laden (assuming he is still alive) dies in some cave. World War II was won by defeating the Axis powers. We crushed Germany's military might, even if Adolph escaped the hangman's noose.
Oh, and if these dispensaationalist Christains are even one-hudredth of one percent of those who voted for the President, I will be stunned.
I know this was a long post Bacchus, so I'll make this simple. Find me ONE illegal policy put in place by the Bush administration. ONE. Not something that the USSC said after the fact should be adjusted, as per the recent Hamdan decision regarding the Uniform Code of Military Justice, but something that was illegal at the time it was implemented.
ONE.
And anyone who

Time Mag: "In the two or three days before the arrests, the cell was going operational, and authorities were pressed into action. MI5 and Scotland Yard agents tracked the plotters from the ground, while a knowledgeable American official says U.S. intelligence provided London authorities with intercepts of the group's communications."

IB tucks tail and crawls back underneath rock. Crickets chirping. The truth backed by facts sends democrats sreaming like stuck pigs , never again in a position of power. To be known now as the PARTY OF
PERPETUAL FRAUD.
