Global Warming BS

The heat hysteria on TV is driving me insane; it's more annoying than the heat itself. The "climate change" or "global warming" crowd are trying to convince people its getting hotter. It's not. All these record breaking temperatures are just compared to the same day in previous years. It has been hotter, just on different days.

I went to the NOAA climate website where you can find monthly MEAN (average) temperatures which is much more relevant than a spike on a certain day. Look at last year compared to 1937:

August1937MeanTemps.gif

Looks like August last year was much more pleasant nationally than in 1937...

You are a fool who can only parrot Rush. Even Bush acknowledges that the world is heating up. If you were a little smarter you'de realize how your map shows nothing.

And if you were smart you would know that global warming isn't man's fault.

The maps prove nothing? Steve just shows that leftists are not interested in data and logic, only fantastical projection models fed crap data to entice a anti-capitalist result.

It's a cyclical thing, not a man-made thing, which has always been Rush's point.

I vividly recall the "coming ice age" scare of the 1970s. I guess the half-vast left-wing decided they had milked that one to death and did a 180.

The "coming ice age" of the 1970s scare was committed by the same people (i.e., the popular media) as are currently allowing you to think there's actually uncertainty in whether anthropogenic global warming is real (which Bush also acknowledges - albeit very quietly).

OTOH, climatologists were already warning of global warming (not global cooling) in the 1970s (even as early as the 1950s) despite the apparently contradictory temperature information. That's because they were using basic science (as opposed to the very complicated models that global warming deniers like to bash). Here's the basic science:

CO2 absorbs infrared radiation.
We've drastically increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Absorbing infrared radiation eventually leads to hotter temperatures.

The pre-Industrial Age CO2 atmospheric content has been estimated to have been 280 ppm (0.028%). The current CO2 content is about 380 ppm (0.038%). Despite the changes, carbon dioxide is still a very small component of the Troposphere. And much of that carbon dioxide can be attributed to natural causes such as volcanoes, releases from oceans, and animal/bacterial respiration.

Ben completely ignores the role of Water Vapor (humidity) and Water Droplets (clouds) in the Greenhouse Effect. Is that a proper practice of basic science?

When any of these commentors walk outdoors and notice the differences between a cloudy, humid day and a clear, dry day, they are seeing the local, rapid changes in the Greenhouse Effect due to changes in atmospheric moisture.

Because of the natural variations evidenced by the paleoclimatological record, it is difficult to assess our impacts, whether they are 0.001%, 0.01%, 0.1%, 10.0%, or whatever.

Deforestation and the growth of Urban Heat Islands seem to be more worthy of discussion as contributors to any warming.

Citing CO2 as the only reason for any global warming is simply a political power grab.

I think all comment should be treated with respect. I tend to think that the earth is heating up. Maybe it's because I am in my 50+ and have seen the change for myself.
