Wall to Wall Coverage Please?
Will this receive some fifty different above the fold articles in the NYTimes like Abu Grhaib?
The prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay during the war on terror have attacked their military guards hundreds of times, turning broken toilet parts, utensils, radios and even a bloody lizard tail into makeshift weapons.
Pentagon incident reports reviewed by The Associated Press show Military Police guards are routinely head-butted, spat upon and doused by "cocktails" of feces, urine, vomit and sperm collected in meal cups by the prisoners.
They've been repeatedly grabbed, punched or assaulted by prisoners who reach through the small "bean holes" used to deliver food and blankets through cell doors, the reports say. Serious assaults requiring medical attention, however, are rare, the reports indicate.
The detainee "reached under the face mask of an IRF (Initial Reaction Force) team member's helmet and scratched his face, attempting to gouge his eyes," states a May 27, 2005, report on an effort to remove a recalcitrant prisoner from his cell.
"The IRF team member received scratches to his face and eye socket area," the report said.

"Will this show up on Michealmoore.com or Huffington Post? NEVER".
This kind of reminds of the stupid question that the League of the South asks all of the time: "Why are school students forced to memorize Lincoln's Gettysburg Address but they are not even required to read Jefferson Davis's Farewell address to the U.S. Senate?"
Of course the answer is that Lincoln's words were a work of genius, poetically and succinctly getting his point across. He performed successfully the difficult feat of having it both ways. He made himself both the conservator of the sacred old Union and the herald of a new birth of freedom. Rhetorically, he encompassed right and left (something a modern Republican is incapable of), the revered past and the longed-for ideal future. To top it off, he says it with an economy of words that makes it relatively easy to memorize.
Davis's oratory on the other hands is long, boring, and self serving. It was a devisive message delivered by a partisan blowhard. You couldn't memorize it word for word if you had an entire school term to do it.
So, why won't intelligent bloggers and newspaper reporters be writing ad naseum about the behavior of Gitmo inmates while turning their backs on Bush sanctioned torture of detainees?
Well, one reason would be that this behavior is hardly surprising, since roughly the same inmate behavior occurs in civilian prisons every day. Apparently the only real news here is that the attacks are more likely to be made with body fluids, lizard tails, and plastic sporks. Do we expect that the inmate behavior in Gitmo can be changed to be drastically different than the way inmates behave in other settings? What purpose would a poltical blog on the behavior of inmates have? Perhaps to justisy treating them inhumanly, since their behavior needs to be punished? I don't think you'll find that on a liberal blog. That is more the domain of the conservative thinkers.
Yes, on a liberal blog or in a responsible newspaper, you will find commentary upon commentary when our government and its organs violate basic human rights and American principles. That is only as it should be and when you have hoodlums in charge of the government machinary that think certain provisions of the Geneva confention are "quaint" then 50 or even one hundred comments above the fold are not enough to combat it. That is not what this country is about.
So Lincoln's address trumps Davis's because Lincoln's was relevant, thoughtful, purposeful, poetic, and succint while Davis's was not. Abu Grhaib received political commentary because it violated the principals that America was founded upon. This story story will attract little note because there is nothing that can be done about it, and it tells us what we already know.....incarcerated people behave badly.

And how would they behave when let free? Let's parole them in your neighborhood.
And you still have offered no PROOF of detainee torture at Guantanamo.

Why do I have to offer proof of detainee torture at Gitmo when YOU and I both cited torture at Abu Grhaib? If you are denying torture there, I have pictures.

Typical tactic. If you are getting slammed, change the topic. We weren't talking about paroles for Gitmo prisoners or torture at Gitmo but suddenly you demand that those questions be addressed.
Let me respond in kind: Why is the sky blue and why aren't you doing something about it?
