These are war crimes

The mantras are forming on the left against Israel:

Bush has been siding with the Israeli government for the past two weeks as it has made the population of Gaza suffer. Bush even vetoed a Security Council resolution condemning Israel’s “disproportionate use of force.” The United States was the only country to vote against that resolution, showing the world once again that Israel can get away with just about anything it wants so long as its godfather in Washington says so.

Bush has been repeating his mantra that “Israel has a right to defend herself,” both in regards to Gaza and to the new offensive against Lebanon. Yes, Hamas had no right to take an Israeli soldier captive, nor was Hezbollah justified in seizing two Israeli soldiers and killing eight others. But Israel has now killed more than 50 Lebanese civilians, and it is destroying the civilian infrastructure of that country, along with Gaza’s. These aren’t defensive acts. These are acts of aggression.

This is a very typical template for the left: Sure, X did Y and he is a bad person and did a bad thing, but what we do is far worse.

Sure, Saddam Hussein had and used WMD, slaughtered 500,000 to 1,000,000 of his own people, invaded two countries, tried to assassinate the President of the United States and was hellbent on revenge for the first Gulf War. Saddam was a bad guy, but that doesn't mean we should topple his government. What we did by liberating 25 million people with 2500 American deaths and 30,000 civilian casualties is much worse.

Sure, al Qaeda thugs killed 3000 Americans on 9/11, captured and slaughtered American civilians, beheading people on television and exploding school children. They are bad, bad people, but that doesn't mean we should deny them lawyers. What we did by taking them out of a cave and putting them in tropical Cuba with air conditioning, 3 culturally acceptable meals, state-of-the-art health care and soccer, all while denying them US Constitutional protections, Habeus Corpus rights and denying them access to the ACLU media machine--well that's just far worse.

Why don't you try? Use the template and make up a leftist argument! :-)
