History Lesson IV
From Sunday Telegraph (London), Nov. 19, 2000:
Saddam Hussein has been illegally stockpiling an arsenal of deadly chemical and biological weapons in schools and hospitals, Western intelligence reports say. Among the items listed are 610 tons of precursor chemicals for the production of VX [nerve gas], in addition to large quantities of growth media used to make biological weapons such as anthrax... "We have good reason to suspect that Iraq is still hiding chemical, biological and weapons of mass destruction in a range of locations," Peter Hain, the [British] Foreign Office minister, told the Sunday Telegraph. Satellite imaging has now revealed Saddam's elite force, the Republican Guard, apparently shifting the weapons to new hiding places. The disclosures, based partly on the debriefing of defectors, come amid growing tensions over the 10-year sanction regime... Mr. Hain pointed out that before expelling the United Nations weapons inspectors in December 1998, Iraq had admitted that it was hiding chemical, biological weapons and missile parts in the desert, caves and railway tunnels.
Saddam lied, kids died?

Well then why don't you right run over there and dig all those weapons out of those railway tunnels?
Oh yeah, thats right. BECAUSE THEY DIDN"T EXIST. The lesson here is Hain and all those "defectors" were lying too. They were fixing the intellegence around the predetermined policy. Which was to invade Iraq at all costs. Good lesson, Aaron.

why does no one remember that there were inspectors there in the run-up to the invasion, and they were going everywhere the US told them, and finding nothing? Supporters of the unsuportable Bush keep saying the whole world thought there were weapons. Well, yeah. But then there were inspectors. The fact is that, whatever the WMD status was in the 90s, the sanctions, the no-fly zones, the inspections were WORKING. So give that one up. WMD had nothing to do with the real reasons for invasion. And whatever the reasons were, it's undeniable that the management of the invasion involved the incompetent overlooking of every warning and suggestion of what might happen: the virtually criminal use of our troops based only on a best case, magical thinking scenario. Had such management of a war been done by a democrat, Aaron and all his cohorts would be screaming for his head. (No, the one ABOVE his shoulders.)
