How To Ensure the Democrats Don't Win in 2006
The HuffPo is headlining Jonathon Alter's Newsweek column as follows:
Newsweek's Jonathan Alter: If Dems Regain Congress, Articles Of Impeachment May Be Introduced...
This will all play out eventually in congressional committees and in the United States Supreme Court. If the Democrats regain control of Congress, there may even be articles of impeachment introduced. Similar abuse of power was part of the impeachment charge brought against Richard Nixon in 1974.
To which, all I can say, is, "Bring It On!" If the Democrats want to run on the "we'll impeach Bush" platform, they'll lose horribly.
John McIntyre over at Real Clear Politics does a great job of taking down Alter. I especially liked his discussion of the presidential elections from 1968-1980.

This is presumably based on Bush's 35% approval rating? ...and that was before this scandal hit.

Um, Poo, that's 47% as of yesterday, according to the Washington Post.
It seems to me that the Dems are snapping defeat from the jaws of victory. Do they really think that the the platform of impeaching Bush for snooping on members of Al-Qaeda without a warrant is going to win them seats in Congress? Combined with a fillibuster of the Patriot Act? And surrender in Iraq?
Karl Rove has to be smiling. The attack ads are writing themselves.

No my brother. I believe you are wrong. Most Americans are sick of the never ending controversies, the plethora of circular arguments and the paranoid tin-foil hat moonbats running the white house. they are toast. just accept it. your life will be better that way.

So the most favorable poll you could find has the president at 52% disapproval, and that's before he admitted to multiple criminal acts?
