Gay "Swap" Suit
'WIFE Swap" may have gone too far this time.
An Oklahoma husband is suing the show for sending a gay man to live with him and his family as his half of the swap.
He's seeking more than $10 million in damages.
Jeffrey Bedford, who lives with his wife and kids outside Muskogee, assumed he was swapping wives with a heterosexual couple. He also said "Wife Swap" producers refused to let him talk to his wife while the show was being taped.
The episode was taped in October 2004 but has not aired yet.
An ABC spokesman said the contract for the show specified that the swapped spouse "could be either male or female.
"The show is meant to challenge a family's norms," the spokesman told a local Muskogee newspaper, which first reported the suit over the weekend.

Cheesey of the producers to do, but:
1. No one forces anyone to participate on Wife Swap
2. If you're going to participate, read the fine print
3. The "no contact" thing is fishy. I'd love to know if it's specified in the contract. If so, the guy is crying about something he agreed to in writing. That would be very Terrell Owens of him.
4. $10,000,000 is completely insane. That will never happen.
Moral of the story: Don't do reality shows. You will be exploited.
That said, I hope it airs. It'll be some seriously great TV.

You're right...it's like going on Springer and being pissed at the outcome...

RDF/ABC violated the contract with Jeff. Jeff understood there would be no contact with his wife. The producers threatened lawsuits and stranding his wife in the other city if Jeff didn't complete the filming. Jeff wanted to quit at the beginning.
He became very ill and was told by the producers that his wife had been informed of his illness. She had not. The money is not important to Jeff. The courts/lawyers came up with the dollar amounts based on everything that happened (a lot more happened). If it were me, I'd be happy with 5 minutes alone in a small room with those yahoos from RDF/ABC...introduce them to a good butt kicking.
Unfortunately, the information everyone is getting from the net and the media is all coming from an article in the Muskogee Phoenix. A muck-raking reporter got this info from a "friend" at the courthouse who saw the filed case. Jeff has talked to no one.
Hopefully, this episode will never air. There's no reality to this show. It's all scripted, directed, and heavily edited.

oh, please. what a wuss. so this redneck thinks he deserves 10 million for sharing his home with a ho mo sexual. please. in other words, he found it all so distasteful that he became violently ill and wanted to back out. too frigging bad!
we homosexuals are forced to endure heterosexual rednecks 24/7, it's about time folks like that got a taste of what it feels like to deal with people up close who are different.
and stuff the macho talk, pal. your request for "five minutes alone in a room" just makes you sound like a
toothless, cousin-humping goober.

If you will re-read my comment, you will notice that it says that Jeff is NOT the one who decided on the amount. Attorneys decided what the amount should be. The reason Jeff filed suit has nothing to do with the "ho mo sexual" (I like the way you worded that). The reason he filed suit is because of the way RDF/ABC treated him and his entire family (friends also, I was there).
Jeff became ill not because of the gay man, but because of the stress he endured thanks to RDF/ABC. Jeff was hounded constantly by the producer/directors. He was told lies in order to get what the producer/directors wanted on camera. They had a definite agenda. I saw and heard a lot of what they did. What Jeff found distasteful was RDF/ABC and their actions. From what I've heard from some of the other show participants, apparently many of them also found the show distasteful.
You say that folks should get a taste of what it feels like to deal with people up close who are different, yet your use of the term "redneck" seems to indicate that you are not the most tolerant person of the differences of others. Jeff has friends who are "ho mo sexual". Perhaps you should look in a mirror before going on the attack.
As for the macho talk...it was aimed at RDF/ABC and was meant to be taken figuratively. I'm sorry that you read that as a literal gospel interpretation. Of course, if given the opportunity in a fantasy world, I would happily oblige after what I've seen them do to my friend and his family (Oh no, irony! No I wouldn't. Yes I would. No I wouldn't. Yes I would.). So I sound like a "Toothless, cousin-humping goober?" You wound me. You could have at least said "Butt kicking toothless cousin-humping goober."
By the way, I hope that you can get all of your anger issues worked out. Can't we all just get along?
