The Fallacy of Cindy Sheehan's Argument
As the Summer of Cindy continues, more data reveals the fallacy of Cindy Sheehan’s argument against the warfare in Iraq.
First, Cindy continues to claim that there is no justification for taking the fight against terrorism into Iraq. This claim has been discredited by a detailed report provide by Deroy Murdock of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University [Hat Tip to Powerline]. Mr. Murdock presents his report on a website titled Saddam Hussein’s Philanthropy of Terror.
Second, journalist David Gelernter reveals that Cindy’s son Casey was a willing participant in the war against terrorists [Hat Tip to Michelle Malkin]. Gelernter writes the following [Source]:
The real story is brief enough. Casey Sheehan enlisted in the Army in 2000 at age 20. The country was at peace. When he was asked to reenlist four years later, he knew that he would probably be sent to Iraq. He reenlisted anyway. In March 2004, he was sent to Iraq as a mechanic attached to the artillery division of the 1st Cavalry Division. When a convoy was attacked in Sadr City a month later, he volunteered to join the rescue mission — although he had no obligation to take part in combat. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Did he intend to say, "I love my country?" Or was he tricked into saying it? He volunteered to reenlist with the war underway — as an experienced young man, not a teenager. Then he volunteered again, for a dangerous mission above and beyond the call of duty.
Cindy Sheehan has been using her deceased son’s name during her crusade, and yet evidence from her son’s life suggests that her son would not have approved of such a crusade. The evidence provided by Mr. Murdock suggests that Cindy’s crusade isn’t based on the hard facts about Saddam Hussein, but is based on an alternate reality promoted by Michael Moore.
