Free Credit Report Dot Con

After watchimg a TV commercial for FreeCreditReport.com, this pundit decided to take a look at the advertised website. Here is a statement that appears at the bottom of the homepage:

Please Note: Under a new federal law, you may have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies. To request your free annual report under that law, you must go to www.annualcreditreport.com. ConsumerInfo.com and Freecreditreport.com are not affiliated with the annual free credit report program.

When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple Advantage Credit Monitoring. If you don´t cancel your membership within the 30 day trial period, you will be billed $12 for each month that you continue your membership.

A credit report for free? Only if you don't forget to cancel your subscription to something that you probably don't need.

ah yes...I've done that before. you have to give them a credit/debit card number, then cancel it after you receive your credit report.

Thanks, David! I always wondered about that one. Nobody gives stuff away for free, not even the government (cuz the gov. uses OUR tax $$).
