Free Speech Liberals Strike Again!

David Horowitz, former Communist-turned-right wing activist, was hit in the face with a pie as he spoke at Butler University Wednesday night.

This follows on the heels of his speech being rudely interrupted by students and professors alike at Bowling Green University just last week.

Butler spokesman Marc Allan called Wednesday's incident "deplorable."

Deplorable, yes. But surprising? No. The Left, the so-called "progressive liberals" are always shouting and clamoring about the First Amendment...freedom of speech. When Ward Churchill's appearance at a university was cancelled because officials got wind of his fascist essay about the victims of 9/11, his Leftist comrades were up in arms regarding the infringement of his First Amendment rights.

In that case, the university made a judgment call. "Professor" Churchill has the right to speak at any place that will have him. In fact he has been making speeches nationwide, spouting his treasonistic bile wherever he goes.

But David Horowitz, having received an invitation to speak that was not cancelled, was intended to be the victim of intimidation by a bunch of well-indoctrinated Leftist students. In fact, Horowitz was the latest conservative to get bashed with foodstuffs in an attempt to silence him (William Kristol and Pat Buchanan were recent recipients of similar treatment).

To his credit, Horowitz finished his lecture. He says he will press charges if the chance to do so presents itself.

To his credit, Butler President Dr. Bobby Fong, released a statement that included the following:

A university is at its best a forum for the open exchange of ideas and opinions. Mr. Horowitz`s right to express his opinions was violated by those who disrupted his speech. We support the constitutional rights of free speech granted to Mr. Horowitz as well as to those who disagree with his opinions. The university does not support this inappropriate behavior.

I suggest that the university also look into what prompted this behavior. College students, as mature as they think they are, are still extremely impressionable. Hearing contempt and even hatred for conservatives day in and day out from their professors surely has much to do with their mindset.

Let's hope the Academic Bill of Rights, which Horowitz supports, gains a strong foothold in colleges and universities across the country.
