Congressman Wynn - Showdown this Monday

All I knew is that he signed a despicable letter to President Bush and was a member of the Out of Iraq Caucus.

He has a whole web page dedicated to Iraq (which is fine), but shock ran through me when I saw just how ridiculous this man is.

He's the black Dennis Kucinich!

WYNN'S STANCE ON IRAQ

"I have always believed that on matters of National Security, Congress should put partisanship aside and give the President the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, like many other Members of Congress, including Senator John Kerry, Senator Hillary Clinton, and former Senator John Edwards, I was misled by the Bush Administration about the existence of weapons of mass destruction. I was particularly concerned about the issue because the 4th Congressional District of Maryland is uniquely vulnerable due to its proximity to Washington, DC, which had already been hit during the terrorist attacks of September 11. Based on what we know now, however, I believe my vote to support the ‘Use of Force Authorization' against Iraq was a mistake.

In May of 2004, at a meeting at the Islamic Center of Maryland I publicly acknowledged the fact that I regretted my vote. In June of 2005, I joined the 'Out of Iraq' Caucus to seek a realistic exit strategy.

Today, I believe that we need a plan for an orderly withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. We should withdraw 30,000 troops this summer, thereby giving the Iraqis an incentive to take responsibility for their own security. Additionally, I support a plan by my Maryland colleague, Dutch Ruppersberger, a member of the Intelligence Committee, to immediately pull U.S. troops back from major Iraqi cities to less hostile areas outside the cities. Similarly, this plan would force the Iraqis to secure their cities and make U.S. soldiers less vulnerable to attack."

Actions that Congressman Wynn has taken on the War in Iraq [i.e. he's done nothing]:

OUT OF IRAQ CAUCUS

On June 25, 2005, Congressman Wynn joined the 'Out of Iraq' Caucus. The mission of the Congressional Caucus' is to bring focus to the issue of returning US service members in Iraq to their families as soon as possible.

NO PERMANENT BASES IN IRAQ

Congressman Wynn is a cosponsor of HR 3134, The Iraq Sovereignty Promotion Act, which expresses the sense of Congress that the United States supports: (1) the men and women of the US Armed Forces, the people of Iraq, and the leaders of Iraq's elected government; and (2) the Iraqi people's desire to rebuild Iraq as a fully sovereign, stable, and peaceful democratic country.

SUPPORT TO DEFUND THE WAR [Why I called for the meeting]

Last month, Congressman Wynn signed onto the Declaration of Peace and have publicly committed to defund the war, withdraw US troops, and support a sustained peace process and the reconstruction of Iraq. As part of this, he have signed on to Jim McGovern's bill, HR 4232, End the War in Iraq Act, to use the Congressional power of the purse to get our troops out of Iraq starting now.

MURTHA [Who was an unindicted co-conspirator in ABSCAM by getting passports in the hands of Arabs for cash] BILL

Congressman Wynn a cosponsor of H.J.RES.73, the Murtha bill, which states that: (1) the deployment of U.S. forces in Iraq, by direction of Congress, is hereby terminated and the forces involved are to be redeployed at the earliest practicable date; (2) a quick-reaction U.S. force and an over-the-horizon presence of U.S. Marines shall be deployed in the region; and (3) the United States shall pursue security and stability in Iraq through diplomacy.

MILITARY RECRUITMENT

Congressman Wynn is a cosponsor of HR 551, a bill to require that schools develop an active opt-in mechanism to provide contact information to military recruiters, rather than accepting no parental action as passive permission. [Military as aggressors and cannot be trusted around American youth!]

DEPARTMENT OF PEACE

Congressman Wynn is a cosponsor of HR 3760, Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act to establish a Department of Peace and Nonviolence. The mission of the Department would be to promote justice and democratic principles to expand human rights, and develop policies that promote national and international conflict prevention, nonviolent intervention, mediation, peaceful resolution of conflict and structured mediation of conflict. [it's called the State Department!]
