Smallville - Intermission

The last four days of Smallville (including my telecommute day on Thursday when I watched the second half of season 3 and the first part of season 4, and on Friday where I finished Season 4 and began season five, and today where I am currently in the middle of season 5. I believe there is only season 6 and then I will be prepared to watch the new season next week (I've DVR'd the first episode).

ANYWAY

1. I first loved the show because of its orientation toward values and family. It had a "Leave It to Beaver" or "Dennis the Menace" quality in that a virtue was discussed each episode.

2. There was no "naughty" scenes.

3. They quote scripture (even Lionel Luther refers to it as the Good Book, and just a few episodes the story of King David's betrayal of his best friend to win his wife Bathsheba was told).

But by the end of season 3 and most of season 4 (except for the premier and the last two episodes) the show took a nose dive. The scripts were lame and the sex was in full force. Also, the witchcraft and "stones" storyline with Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, sucked hard. It totally ruined the storyline because this show is about an ALIEN, not some psycho bitch burned at the stake.

The last two episodes of season 4 was when the writers took their respective heads out of their asses and went back to basics and the show took flight (literally and figuratively).

Season 5 is the best season since season 1 or 2. They always get rid of the "black friend" and that pissed me off.

I just started the first segment of episode 12 where Clark finally tells Lana. The proposal was some of the best TV I've ever seen. Of course, being the dumb, helpless, clueless, bitch that she is, she's going to screw it up and ruin everything.

I wish Charles were sitting here watching me watch this episode so I wouldn't have to embarrass myself with all this teenage girl talk on my blog. It's always fun to introduce people to good shows (like when I forced my mom to watch an episode of House or gave my boss the entire series off 24).

Just know, Charles, that you're the one who talked up this show and I owe you for that.

Absolutely splendiferous!

UPDATE: I just finished episodes 12 and 13. I now hate Lex Luthor. I used to kinda like him, but HE fucked everything up, not Lana like I had expected. If I wasn't so tired, I would have cried during both episodes.

No Go for Gingrich (good)

I love Newt Gingrich, but the man also suffers from Biden syndrome (where his sentences have have too many "I"s and "me"s). He is brilliant, however, and I hope he continues his work on government transformation.

His strongest argument for the next president is that people say they want "change" or a "new direction" but they really want the government "transformed" and the best way to do that is to streamline using the constitution and moving money off the federal plantation and let the states keep it for their constituency. People feel powerless because all politics cannot be handled by 536 elected officials in Washington, but if you return power back to the states, municipalities, towns and homes, Americans will be empowered and able to face the new century with the ability to win - yet again.

Reagan Smiles on Star Wars

A man with vision sees possibilities that presently seem impossible but become reality with hard work and determination:
A ground-based missile successfully intercepted a target missile Friday in a test of the nation's defense system, the Missile Defense Agency said.

An intercontinental ballistic missile interceptor blasted out of an underground silo at Vandenberg Air Force Base shortly after 1:15 p.m., and tracked a target missile that had lifted off from the Kodiak Launch Complex in Alaska, the Boeing Co. said in a statement.

The Missile Defense Agency said initial results show the interceptor's rocket motor system and kill vehicle performed as planned. Boeing said the warhead was tracked, intercepted and destroyed.
They intercepted and destroyed an ICBM folks. MDA should be renamed RRDA: the Ronald Reagan Defense Agency, so that history will never forget.

Of course, this program is one that Democrats are itching to defund. Left-wing attacks (including snide remarks by Carl Sagan) vilified Reagan as a nut proposing an impossible task.

My hope is that 20 years from now, when Iraq has held it's fifth parliamentary elections, people will look back and see the same determination and "wild-eyed" optimism of our current president. Bush is no Reagan (or Lincoln), but he might be up there with Truman.

“it’s only fair” to tax those who buy large suburban houses

And thus begins Democrats soft-Stalinist Taxation Regime to combat a threat yet proven (remember, terrorism is a fact evidenced by a crater in lower Manhattan).

These wonderful infringements on personal liberty include:

_A 50-cent-a-gallon tax on gasoline and jet fuel, phased in over five years, on top of existing taxes (which is soaking the poor with taxes)

_A tax on carbon, at $50 a ton, released from burning coal, petroleum or natural gas (which will destroy domestic jobs and cause electric and gas bills to skyrocket)

_Phaseout of the interest tax deduction on home mortgages for homes over 3,000 square feet. Owners would keep most of the deduction for homes at the lower end of the scale, but it would be eliminated entirely for homes of 4,200 feet or more (telling you where and how you can live - removing a motivation for success and devaluing the constitutional right to life, liberty and PROPERTY)
Oh, the wonderful Democrats. Don't say this site didn't warn you!

Katie Couric:  Racist

At the National Press Club, defending the terror-master of Iran:

Couric referenced comments made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday’s “The Charlie Rose Show,” and said she actually agreed with Ahmadinejad on one point. “Oftentimes Westerners don’t really understand fully the values of this particular culture,” said Couric. “And I think the jury is still out as to whether democracy can really thrive in Iraq.”
What do those sand niggers know about freedom and democracy? Those towelheads cannot live in a free society.

And there you have the first solo, female anchor on the big three news.

Oh, and she hates Bush, too. This would NEVER shade the news she chooses to read each night; or what the writers write in the news that she reads each night.

Courage.

Perky.

But, Aaron, she is but one of many and you cannot claim she represents most news readers on the broadcast networks! There is NO leftwing/anti-Republican bias in the media!

Then why were Brian Williams and Christian Amanpour dining with Hitler's Heir?

DVD Review:  The Lives of Others (German, subtitles: 2006)

Put something like "Before the Fall of the Berlin Wall, East Germany's Secret Police Listened to Your Secrets" on the cover, next to an evil KGB thug and a naked couple going at it hot and heavy, and I'm willing to overlook the subtitles once in a while.

Adding Winner: Academy Award Best Foreign Language Film 2006 didn't hurt, either.

Usually I avoid foreign language flicks, but I grabbed The Lives of Others and I'm glad I did. Not your typical chase 'em down, beat 'em up spy flick, Lives of Others is a recreation of the Stasi's (East Germany's Secret Police) domestic spying program. With the Berlin Wall long gone and the Two Germany's reunited, writer and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was able to draw on contemporary historical materials, giving Lives of Others a realistic tenor that's added to by the subtle performances of the actors.

The movie's plot is based on Stasi surveillance of a famous East German playwright, who is considered on the good guys by the government but ends up on the watch lists because a famous actress sharing his bed also makes time with a government big wig.

The Stasi captain in charge of his surveillance happens to be a fan, however, and his empty life fertilizes subversive thinking sufficiently to ensure that drama ensues.

This movie isn't lightweight, but the payoff is more than worth the investment.

The DVD extras show how the film's sets relied on accurate descriptions of the Stasi file rooms ... I'm a geek for this stuff so I grant extra points for this sort of thing ... and the movie uses a contemporary records room where German citizens today access their old government files. Fascinating stuff. I wonder if I have an FBI file?

Rating: Five pundits.

CNN Looks for Heroes - Military, Police and Firefighters Need Not Apply

image

Funny thing about CNN's list of heroes - not one single soldier, marine, firefighter, police officer or EMT.

They do feature a whole section on defenders; they are not defenders of freedom, but they "Defend the Planet."

I feel an online flurry of fury at CNN is in order and us bloggers are just the ones to remind CNN that their whole operation AND the first amendment is indebted to all they heroes they fail to list.

image

Let's all take a moment and nominate a soldier we know, or if MilBlogs are willing to help, we can generate names and stories for people who do not know a soldier but would like to nominate him/her anyway.

We can also nominate our local police and firefighters (I will visit my volunteer engine house tomorrow for a story).

They only want to list the military dead, but not the heroes.

Evidence Abortion Is Losing Popularity

I am happy to see Planned Parenthood on its heels and having to deceive communities with shell companies and front groups to get permits to open abortuaries.

Anyone interested in the what the bible says about abortion should continue reading...

You’d Think the Short Bus Was Cheaper

The government (federal and District of Columbia) spend $82,000 per special education student, per year.

This is precisely what happens with Dems in control of funding.

Funding The Most Honest And Ethical Congress In History - NOT

The criminal complaint against Norman Shu, sure to receive just as much attention in the Drive-by Media as Jack Abramoff did.

Ah, but wait, you may say. This is an allegation fo a Ponzi scheme, unconnected to his fundraising!

Well, my response to your serious consideration of that lack of connection is - BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
