Charles Rangel the Theologian

On an episode of Hardball with Chris Matthews, Democrat Congressman Charles Rangel made a fool of himself by misquoting Jesus. According to Rangel, Jesus said that rich people are going straight to Hell.

Here is an excerpt as posted on the blog ThreeBadFingers:

MATTHEWS: I mean, Charlie, Jesus didn‘t hang around with the swells, the rich people.

RANGEL: Well, he said the rich are going straight to hell.

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: Well, he did not.

(LAUGHTER)

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: He said it is harder to get through a needle‘s…

(CROSSTALK)

RANGEL: No. But the deal with St. Matthews and all these people are trying to get into heaven. And he said, hey, when I was hungry, you didn‘t feed me. I was thirsty. I was naked. I was sick. You didn‘t do all these—he‘s talking about food stamps, Social Security.

MATTHEWS: Right.

Wrong!

Jesus didn’t say that rich people would go straight to Hell. If Jesus did say such a thing, then Rangel should be worried because Rangel is very rich in comparison to people living in Third-World nations.

Furthermore, the Bible parable that Rangel refers to (Matthew 25:31-40) describes individuals aiding the poor. The parable is not about government-controlled programs funded by taxes.

Congressman Rangel has missed the lesson of the parable of the sheep and goats. Sadly, he is not the only person to do so.

Hat Tip to Michelle Malkin.

This guy is so out of touch with reality. He's one of the many politicians on the left that I look at and think "How in the world do these people get elected?!". What an embarassment.
